The vehicle dynamics model is commonly referred to as a “vehicle state estimator”.
The accuracy of traditional vehicle state estimators is somehow limited by the employment of fixed assumptions about vehicle operating conditions.
Assumptions are of course biased to the conservative side. Vehicle state estimator performance is then limited when such assumptions lead to underestimate the actual maneuverability limits of the vehicle.
In case of emergency, underestimating vehicle maneuverability limits can have a large impact on the final outcome.
